Meet the Family: Doc Brown

Meet the Family: Doc Brown

The first in a series of profiles with our community of awesome supporters. Doc Brown is a rapper, comedian, actor, screenwriter, radio presenter, and voiceover artist. We caught up the Breezy to hear about his latest work, why he loves THTC and what his future wishlist is.

What is going on with you? Life good?

Surviving! Staying positive as ever.

What is your latest news?

I’m on my usual juggle- shooting a comic thriller for Sky, touring with Gervais and prepping the release of my album, Stemma, out now!

What can we expect from your latest release / your / project?

Stemma is the culmination of 2 years work, putting together a coherent collection of songs written and recorded from the heart, trying to retain what I always had as a rapper, but bringing something totally new to the table as well.

Which one of your songs best represents THTC?

Probably Hydroplaning, which is such an optimistic record that kind of pushes love peace and understanding, but not in a cheesy way - definitely something I think THTC also pushes in a similar fashion!

What is your favourite item from THTC?

My all time favourite was a red and white tee that had “GET RICH OR TRY SHARING” across the chest. A timeless statement. I also loved the series of tops that celebrated music more directly, the unspooled cassette [Mixtape] and the “Amen” break.

What cause does THTC help you support?

I think in an abstract way, a sense of communal responsibility, the idea that we all have a role to play, and in pulling together we can be stronger. In a more specific way I support ethical trading and THTC are definitely champions of that.

What makes you passionate about THTC?

I think one of the big things is that they’ve supported me from the very start, they’re a very loyal and honest company and it’s hard not to respect that. Secondly, they always have a strong message and are not afraid to have it at the centre of their business model unlike the majority of fashion companies who tend to pay temporary lip service to causes, mainly only when it suits them.

If you could change anything about the world, what would it be and why?

One thing would be removing all nuclear weapons. I understand why they’re there in terms of military defence, but if no one at all has them, we can still do the same military posturing, we can still engage in cold war, but there’s no threat of ending the entire world in the push of a button.

Another issue is climate change. The fact that there are still so many people who don’t give a shit is so stupid that it would actually be funny if it weren’t so important! I’d love the superpowers to really put their financial weight behind protecting the future of the natural world. I mean we all have to live here so…

More love, more life!

Is there a cause that’s close to your heart?

Youth services and the NHS. Without those two so many people wouldn’t even be alive, yet we continue to strip all support away from both.

Thank you Doc - we love hearing about your passions and it’s great to see that small details of society remain important to you.
